Frequently asked questions
Which license do I need?
It depends on the use: Desktop for any work that is printed or exported as a file (posters, packaging, books), Web for embedding the font in a website, and Apps for bundling inside an app. Still not sure? We are happy to help.
What is a variable font?
A single file holding a continuous range of weights (and sometimes widths), so you can pick the exact weight and width you want — from Thin to Black — without switching files. The Polin family has a variable version.
Who should buy the license — the designer or the client?
The license belongs to whoever uses the font and publishes the design. For client work, it’s usually best to put the license in the client’s name, since they own the final materials. Not sure? Get in touch and we’ll sort it out together.
Is commercial use allowed?
Yes. Every license covers commercial use — just choose the one that matches how you’ll use the font (desktop, web or app).
Which file formats will I get?
It depends on the license: Desktop — OTF files to install on your computer; Web — WOFF2 and WOFF files for embedding (most families also include EOT); Apps — TrueType (TTF) files.
How do I install the font?
On a Mac: double-click the file, then “Install Font” (Font Book). On Windows: right-click the file and choose Install. The font is then available in all your design software.
How do I embed the font in a website?
With a Web license, add an @font-face rule to your CSS pointing to the WOFF2 file, then use the family name in font-family. We’re happy to send sample embed code — just ask.
Can I modify the font?
Modifying the font files isn’t allowed without written permission. Need a customization (extra characters, a new weight, another script)? We do custom work too — get in touch.
